Vocational Skills Training:
The goal of the Vocational Skills Training program is to allow individuals the opportunity to gain skills necessary for individual employment, group employment, or volunteer opportunities in the community. Areas of opportunity include but are not limited to: custodial cleaning, retail, clerical, and customer service. These trainings are primarily focused on improving productivity and efficiency with respect to the requirements of the position(s) available in the community. Further, we provide guidance and instruction in proper work ethic and attitude. Individuals who gain the appropriate skills and demonstrate the work ethic needed will advance as other opportunities are available. Ultimately, the goal is to offer each individual who desires an opportunity and chance to compete for and fill a paid skilled position, with an independent employer in the community, through group or individual placements.
In addition, skill training is offered through various levels of volunteer opportunities throughout the community. The community partnerships not only serve as a great training opportunity but also a the perfect community connection. We help leverage these connections for networking and possible future employment opportunities for our individuals.

Retail Program:
Based on preferences and availability, individuals are given the opportunity to receive supervised training in the community at one of our agency-owned stores. Spring Dell owns and operates two thrift stores, Hook-n-Hangers in La Plata and Hooks-n-Hangers II in Charlotte Hall. Each store sells clothing, furniture, household good and various other items. These items are received through donations from the community. Individuals working at the stores receive actual training in a retail store environment. They learn to process merchandise, assist costumers, clear and organize the store and operate a cash register. While working at the stores, individuals receive additional training to assist them with learning various responsibilities of a retail employee. The goal is for the individuals in the training program to apply for competitive paid employment positions as they become available.

Clerical:
This program provides opportunities for participants to explore their vocational and educational interest. The program offers hands-on training with computers and other office equipment. An individual in this program also receives training in personal care management, consumer affairs, financial management and problem solving. Individuals learn to work as independently as possible, with necessary adaptations of equipment. The opportunity to participate in income-producing work is also offered when available.

Custodial Program:
Spring Dell maintains an onsite Custodial Training Program. The program is designed to teach individuals how to successfully identify, prepare for and clean in a manner consistent with industry standards to help gain and maintain employment in the appropriate community work settings. The program also teaches individuals basic skills required to maintain placement in a community setting such as, time management and social skills. Once an individual has successfully demonstrated the acquired skills, they then seek the appropriate community placement.

Transportation
Spring Dell Center encourages independence, by having individuals participate in arranging their daily transportation through community supports. All other options should be explored prior to requesting transportation services from Spring Dell Center. This is especially critical for individuals in the Employment/Vocational program. Individuals may be provided round trip transportation between their homes and community jobs on a space available basis. To offset the high cost of transportation in a large rural area, individuals are asked to make a monetary donation to assist with the transportation expenses.
