LA PLATA, MD – June 20, 2025 – Spring Dell, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Charles County, celebrated another resounding success with its annual Fun Fest, held yesterday, June 19th. The event brought together community members, dedicated volunteers, and beloved local mascots for a day filled with joy, laughter, and a true spirit of inclusion.
The 2025 Fun Fest was a testament to Spring Dell’s mission to assist adults with disabilities in achieving their highest level of independence and fostering a vibrant, inclusive community for all. Smiles were abundant as attendees enjoyed a variety of activities and entertainment.
A highlight of the day was the continued dedication of the students from St. Mary’s Bryantown School, who have been invaluable volunteers since 2016. Their consistent support is integral to the success of the Fun Fest, demonstrating a powerful commitment to community service and understanding.
The event saw a lively lineup of special guests, including the Chick-Fil-A Cow, Chase the Dog from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Pinch from the Southern MD Blue Crabs, Talon from the College of Southern Maryland, and the ever-popular Peaches. Mary’s Go Round Pet Sitting Zoo added an extra layer of delight, while the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department brought their Engine 12 for an exciting visit.
Spring Dell extends its sincere gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the day: Circus Ice Cream for donating the ice cream cooler, local Pepsi for their generous soda donation, DJ Kevin Colvin for setting the festive mood, and Lisa and Mark Wills for providing the dunk tank that brought so much cheer. Special appreciation also goes to the talented face painting and tattoo ladies who added colorful flair to the event.
“There’s so much that goes into making this day happen,” said Donna Retzlaff, Executive Director of Spring Dell. “From the months of planning for Fun Fest 2025 to the tireless efforts in setup and breakdown, our exceptional staff truly went above and beyond. And to be honest, we wouldn’t have it any other way when we see the pure joy on everyone’s faces. It’s a clear reflection of the inclusive community we strive to create every day.”
Spring Dell looks forward to continuing its mission of providing support and employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, empowering them to achieve the quality of life they desire. The success of the 2025 Fun Fest underscores the strong community ties and shared vision for a more inclusive Charles County.
